My "small pistol" set-up
I live in a typical sub-urban city lot of about 500m² with the house located right in the middle. Not much space to erect the antenna's I'd like, but I'm able to cover all 9 bands with reasonable good working conditions..
My conditions can be qualified as "small pistol" set-up.

Transceiver
FT920 improved selectivity
+ INRAD switchboard filter with
250Hz CW filter (ref 708), cascaded with the default 500Hz OEM filter. + 2.1KHz SSB filter that replaced the default 2.4KHz from Yaesu |
Those filters have been a GREAT addition to the receiver, highly recommended !!!!!
Selectivity has been drastically improved, which is more than helpful on either low bands or crowdy band conditions.
Antenna
5-band original HexBeam Hx5Bi - Mounted at 9m (27 feet) Above Ground Level
- Original Traffie's version (not the newest broadband one)
VERY satisfied after 10 year of use. HexBeam is still the best trade-off on the market between size/price & performances !

4-band homemade inverted-L
This configuration has been achieved after several modifications over the years
- 2008 : I primarily used an original HF2V for 40 and 80m.
- 2009 : Improved 80m efficiency by raising up the coils at 3m high
- 2012 : I then installed the TBR-160s kit for 160m + parallel radiator for 30m operation
- 2013 : I then replaced the extended HF2 by this inverted-L configuration
